Excellent movies, like all great art, will stir you to the inner part of your soul and leave you spiritually inspired. This is no doubt one such excellent movie that has had a great impact on me and will long be treasured.

John Keating (Robin Williams), a teacher of literature at a prestigious boarding school, encourages his students to express what they feel and make their lives extraordinary. His dynamic way of presenting literary works has the power to breathe life into them; they no longer remain dead words but poets’ spiritual yearnings for life.

His students, through their encounter with this powerful teacher, learn to think for themselves and realize that their words and ideas have the power to change the world. But the school authority finds Keating’s teaching method too radical, lacking tradition and discipline considered essential at this institute.

One of the boys chooses to make his life extraordinary and seek his career as an actor against his father’s wishes. But his father only confronts him with fury and enrolls him in Military School. Feeling trapped with no way out, the boy seeks freedom through suicide. The school authority puts Mr. Keating responsible for his death and dismisses him from the school. Though he can do nothing but leave, the inner life force Mr. Keating has instilled in his students will remain with them.

Many beautiful verses from memorable scenes still linger in my mind : "I went into the woods because I wanted to live deliberately. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life…….to put to rout all that was not life; and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." I do not want to discover that I have not lived at my death bed; therefore, from this day on, I will seize the day and contribute a verse to the play of my life each day.
