Spring is always associated with the commencement of a new life and new challenges. I always like this season because it is so invigorating to observe nature celebrating its cycle of existence with all the plants and trees adding colors of life to the landscape; the assurance of rejuvenation. In this season, some may be ready to start a new life in a different environment and others to take on new challenges with their work or their lives. Whatever the nature of your challenge is, I wish you the best in your endeavors.

This year, 2005, marks memorable beginnings for our school as well: the first year at our new location and the 15th anniversary of the school.

This year, 2005, marks memorable beginnings for our school as well: the first year at our new location and the 15th anniversary of the school. It feels like just yesterday that I started this school with anticipation and worries. Looking back, these past 15 years have presented me with very significant experiences through many meaningful encounters with wonderful students and staff. I feel very grateful that our school has been in operation for so many years and has helped many students achieve their goals with English. I am certain that many more exciting years will be ours to see. I would like our school to develop together with our students for a bright future.

“You never conquer the mountain. You only conquer yourself,” said Jim Whittaker, the first American to climb Mt. Everest. Many small and large mountains may stand in our way for us to conquer. We can only build up our self confidence and achieve self-development by conquering these mountains lying ahead of us. This, of course, applies to your study of English. You set your clear goal in studying English and once you have achieved the goal, set another higher goal. It is only through determination, persistence and courage that you will see successful results in your endeavors with English. I, as an English teacher, constantly remind myself to be a humble learner and conquer my laziness and weakness associated with developing my language skills. I am ready to learn anything and everything from people and the situations I encounter and the books I read. This attitude allows me to look at things from different perspectives and to be flexible in my mindset, which I believe is an important factor in developing our English skills. Let us take another step each day towards conquering our mountains.
